Horrible event, but a very effective recounting of it. It's so awful when these things stem not from carelessness or malicious intent, but simply a natural concurrence of events. Devastating for everyone, and nothing to do but pick up the pieces.

So beautiful! But so scary to have had such a big fire so early in the year 💔

Glad the fire is out but so sad that the impact will live on for many - people, wildlife and vegetation.

I’m so sorry to hear about this fire. California has a similarly terrifying and destructive fire season. My great grandparents came from Convalle, near Pescaglia, on the other side of Lucca, all beautiful country. 🙏

It is. How wonderful to have relatives from here. I’m intrigued to know why they left and where they went?

They were very poor. He was a laborer and had gone to San Francisco to help rebuild the streets after the 1906 earthquake. After a few years working, he went back and married her in their village. Then they sailed from Genoa for New York, made it to California and never returned. Though all of their descendants did.

Oh wow. I did some research into our ancestry. We had Irish famine relies come over and eventually they too end up in NYC ( I think some also went to the gold rush, but I’m not entirely sure they weren’t wrong un’s but then poverty is a defence to that in my view). It’s just incredible, especially when ‘world’ events become part of your family story.
